Dalada Maaligawa occupies a unique position in the life of people of Sri Lanka. Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya is located in close proximity to the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It is renowned for the collection the variety of Orchids,and has more than 300 varieties of Orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palms trees attach it is the National Herbarium. Total land mass of the botanical garden is 147 acres (0.59 km2), 460 Meters above sea level.
Embekke Devalaya, Kandy comprises carved wooden pillars with engravings of swans, lions, bulls, elephants and other such animals. On these pillars you will often find motifs like leafs, flowers, soldiers, dancing women and even mermaids. There are a total of 128 carvings on these pillars. Most of these carvings are presumably the work of the ancient artisan, Devendra Mulachari. 16 wooden pillars adorn the entrance of the Embekke Devalaya in Kandy.
Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage and breeding ground for wild elephants which is situated northwest of the town of Kegalle, Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Department of Wildlife Conservation on a 25-acre (10 ha) coconut plantation on the Maha Oya river. The orphanage was originally founded in order to afford care and protection to the many orphaned elephants found in the jungle.
Ambuluwawa Mountain in Gampola District reaches to a height of 1065 meters and vegetation is mostly disturbed. To study lichens three sites, each 100m2 in area, at different elevations (high <990m),>Alstonia macrophylla, Albizzia lebbek, Macaranga tomentosa were selected to study corticolous lichens. Alstonia macrophylla was present in all sites while Albizzia lebbek was present in sites one and three. Macaranga tomentosa was present in site two only.

Udawatta Kele Sanctuary, often spelled as Udawattakele, is a historic forest in the city of Kandy. During the days of the Kandyan kingdom, Udawatta Kele was known as "Uda Wasala Watta" in Sinhalese meaning, "the garden situated above the royal palace". The sanctuary is famous for its extensive avifauna. The reserve also contains a large variety of flora species.
Sri Pada (Adam's Peak) is a 2,243 metres (7,359 ft) tall conical mountain located in central Sri Lanka. It is well-known for the Sri Pada "sacred footprint", a 1.8 m rock formation near the summit, in Buddhist tradition held to be the footprint of the Buddha, in Hindu tradition that of Shiva and in Muslim and Christian tradition that of Adam.
This ancient Buddhist temple is made of stone (except for the roof, of course!). Pillars, slabs and even the Lord Buddha's statue is made of stone. The temple is more than 660 years old. The original paintings are very well preserved. Another advantage for the visitor is that it is situated in very close proximity to Ambakke Devalaya and Lankatilaka Viharaya. All three are historical sites and tourist attractions.
Visit a spice garden in Matale to see many different types of spices Sri Lanka is famous for. Just 25 km from the hill capital of Kandy, the Matale spice gardens are among the best on the island. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. A processing and training unit has been set up in the area and farmers are grouped in a cooperative to ensure fair prices and you will also be able to purchase spices.
Lankathilaka Viharaya, Kandy was constructed in the 14th century AD by King Parakrambahu. It was revived later by Vijayabahu IV. Lankathilaka Viharaya, Kandy was made in the conventional Sinhalese way. Lankathilaka Viharaya is one of the popular tourist destinations in Kandy which is worth visiting.
Due to its impregnable geographical position nestled among the jungle-covered hills of central Sri Lanka, the kingdom of Kandy had established itself before the Portuguese arrived (1505 AD), and held out during the Colonial Period against Portuguese, Dutch, and British alike, until the last king of Kandy abandoned his kingdom to a British expedition in 1815. St. Paul's Church was begun in 1843, completed in 1848, and enlarged in 1878 and 1928.
